History

David Finegold started as a child spending time at his father’s schmata (clothing store) in the 1940s at 319 K St., and 4th and K Street in the 1950s. David’s father’s clothing store was located by all of the other older pawn shops. At that age, he looked in the windows, and would see all the goodies they were selling. Growing up, he would often walk to 122 K St. to visit his uncle’s business, Finegold’s Restaurant Supply where he and his father would visit pawn shops together. He noticed all of the various items they sold such as guns, jewelry, instruments, etc. and realized that he fell in love with the business. His cousin had a loan and jewelry business as well.

His father and he attended the Equapois for lunch and would sit with various pawn brokers where he listened and learned from the interactions of the pawn brokers with his father.

However, in 1958 the Redevelopment Department came and tore down many buildings which included his father’s. In 1971, David proceeded to graduate with an Associate of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1973 from Sacramento State University.

In July, David went to work for a pawn shop which became a dream come true for him. He spent 2 years in August as an apprentice, and in August of 1975 he was able to purchase his own pawn shop. David made that purchase nearly 50 years ago, and realizes that when you love what you do; the years go by quickly. A person that knows David points out to him, “You are the oldest pawn broker still standing in Sacramento”.

As times have changed and things have become higher tech, David still continues to appreciate the work he does by enjoying 5 days per week of work in a business he truly enjoys by specializing in jewelry.

So, what are you waiting for? Go visit David today!
